GLOSSARY
Benchmarking
Benchmarking compares a company's own ESG policies, management maturity, and performance metrics against peer companies or the standards and medians published by rating agencies, to gauge relative position. It's used not just for absolute standing but to set the pace and priorities for improvement.
Why it matters for Tier-2/3
Knowing the ESG management level typically expected of similarly sized peers in the same industry helps a Tier-2/3 supplier judge whether a given customer request is excessive or simply industry-standard. Using a tool like this self-assessment to benchmark yourself is also a practical approach.
