Forced labor
Forced labor is any work or service exacted from a person under the menace of penalty or performed involuntarily, with examples including passport confiscation, debt bondage from excessive recruitment fees, and restricting a migrant worker's freedom of movement. ILO core conventions define its prohibition as a fundamental labor right.
Why it matters for Tier-2/3
The multinational workforce structure of global automotive supply chains puts forced-labor risk near the top of due-diligence checklists. For a Tier-2/3 supplier, checking on-the-ground practices first — whether recruitment fees are charged, whether ID documents are held by the employer — is the practical way to reduce this risk.
