GLOSSARY
Supply chain ESG assessment
Supply chain ESG assessment is an umbrella term for the ways a purchasing company checks the environmental, social, and governance risk and management maturity of suppliers in its chain — questionnaires (SAQs), document review, and on-site audits alike. It covers both third-party platforms like EcoVadis and a purchasing company's own custom questions.
Why it matters for Tier-2/3
Because the automotive supply chain has many tiers, an assessment request from a top-level customer tends to cascade down through the chain, so Tier-2/3 suppliers end up facing similar assessments repeatedly through different channels. Completing one systematic self-assessment produces evidence you can reuse across different customers' requests.
