Life cycle assessment (LCA)
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a methodology for quantifying the environmental impacts — greenhouse gases, resource consumption, pollutant emissions, and more — of a product or service across its full life cycle, from raw-material extraction through production, transport, use, and disposal. ISO 14040/14044 is the internationally recognized procedural standard.
Why it matters for Tier-2/3
To calculate the full life-cycle carbon footprint of its vehicles, an OEM needs emissions data at the parts and materials level, so requests for product-level emission factors or material information to Tier-2/3 suppliers are becoming more common. You don't need to run a full LCA yourself — organizing basic data like material type, weight, and energy use makes it much easier to respond when asked.
