ISO 14001 (environmental management system)
ISO 14001 is the international certification standard for an Environmental Management System (EMS), requiring an organization to systematically identify, manage, and continually improve its environmental aspects. Certificates are issued following third-party audit, built around the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycle.
Why it matters for Tier-2/3
OEMs and large parts makers sometimes check for ISO 14001 certification during supplier onboarding or periodic review, and even without certification, they may look at whether an environmental policy, targets, and a monitoring system are documented as an alternative signal. Regardless of certification status, a Tier-2/3 supplier's practical response is to build the core practices — knowing applicable environmental regulations and monitoring energy and waste.
